Rhonda Brown (American, b. 1969 lives and works in Chicago) a native Clevelander, Brown hails from a family that opened the first for-profit African American gallery in the US, the Malcolm Brown Gallery in Shaker Heights, Ohio opened in 1980. Stephanie spent the first twenty years of her career as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner before transitioning over to a full-time, self-taught artist. Stephanie resides in Chilmark on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. My process in the studio begins with spontaneity. I don’t plan what the painting will look like. I begin by drawing shapes and brushing on lots of rich color. I add line and change up the values and hues. The process is intuitive.
