Chicago, IL — April 2026 — D. Lammie-Hanson has been selected as a recipient of the Bennett Collection Acquisition Award at EXPO CHICAGO, one of the leading contemporary art fairs in the United States. Her work, Agility to Surrender (2026), was chosen as one of three works by women-identifying artists acquired for the Bennett Collection.
The work will enter the Bennett Collection and be held at the Muskegon Museum of Art, where it will be made accessible to the public as part of the museum’s ongoing commitment to expanding representation of women artists working in the figurative tradition and creating work centered on women.
Presented by Knowhere Art Gallery (Martha’s Vineyard), Lammie-Hanson’s work was included in the fair’s FOCUS section, which highlights galleries and artists shaping the future of contemporary art. Her practice centers on the disciplined use of metalpoint, a historically significant and technically demanding medium through which she constructs layered, materially precise compositions that engage both abstraction and figuration.
Agility to Surrender exemplifies Lammie-Hanson’s approach, combining metalpoint and acrylic on canvas to create a surface that is at once restrained and dynamic. The work reflects an ongoing investigation into movement, control, and release, themes that resonate throughout her broader body of work.
“This recognition speaks to the depth and rigor of Lammie-Hanson’s practice,” said Valerie Francis, Founding Director of Knowhere Art Gallery. “Her work reflects a sustained commitment to material exploration and conceptual clarity, and we are proud to support this important moment in her trajectory.”
The Bennett Collection Acquisition Award, presented by The Bennett Prize, supports the acquisition of work by women figurative realist painters, with selected works entering institutional collections to ensure broader public access and long-term visibility.
Lammie-Hanson’s inclusion in the Bennett Collection marks a significant milestone in her career, further positioning her work within an expanding institutional context.
